“In the summer of 2018, I had the fortune of touring with the USA based all-women’s chorus, Voices from the Heart in South Africa. We were surrounded by the beauty of the people, music, culture and magnificent natural landscape. There were many marimba bands performing throughout South Africa and beyond. At a concert we performed with the late great Desmond Tutu and family in attendance, a group of young musicians were playing incredible handmade marimbas that had everyone up dancing & singing. Inspired by the experience, I commissioned a set of South African style marimbas from ethnomusicologist, Gavin Coppenhall—African Ethos Instruments in Cape Town and shipped to New Hampshire USA. The rest is history! Our love of the music and cultures of Southern Africa has been brought to New England. It is our belief that sharing, honoring, experiencing and immersing ourselves in cultural diversity and understanding leads to a more peaceful world.” – Randy Armstrong
